The Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT) Lisbon by Amanda Levete

beautifully sculpted design perfectly taking in the amazing surroundings. fantastic photography by francisco nogueira — kudos!

The Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT) opened in Lisbon. Funded by the Fundação EDP, the museum was designed by Amanda Levete and sits on the banks of the Tejo river.

Portuguese photographer Francisco Nogueira captured the building’s spaces in this comprehensive gallery of images. The MAAT proposes a new relationship between the river and the visitor through a building whose simultaneous power and sensitivity explores the convergence of contemporary art, architecture, and technology. As a structure in the landscape, the building becomes landscape by allowing visitors to walk over and on the museum itself. See here 70 stunning photos of MAAT’s interiors and exteriors.

Pixelated Tower in Nicosia, Cyprus by Jean Nouvel

beautiful example of a vertical garden within a pure white envelope. m.

Situated on 6 Stasinou Avenue, the 16-storey building includes retail spaces at street level, office spaces, individual apartments and a duplex penthouse with a rooftop pool. The north façade features large balconies facing the nearby mountain range, while the building’s two sides are perforated with a pixelated pattern that reminds of pixelated Morse-code messages; some of the openings on these two sides are quite large and contain private gardens with local plants that spill outside, adding to the overall design’s sense of randomness and vitality. The rear of the building faces south, which is the side that suffers most from the scorching summer sunshine; to combat that, the architect has planted lush gardens for each floor that cover up 80 percent of the elevation, thus acting as a natural shield from the sun and creating a connection with nature for the people inside.

Custom Ducati Scrambler Designed and Built by Hugo Eccles in Collaboration with Marin Speed Shop

one word… hot! m.

eccles loved ducati’s signature frame, and celebrated it with a custom petrol tank. it echoes the lines and angles of the frame resulting in a tapered shape which became the overall direction for the build — the seat, and headlight are all part of one single tapered form. the slim design also suggested a more pared-down flattrack inspired style which eccles felt was compatible with the ‘scrambler’s’ DNA. from that point on, the build was geared towards stripping and removing all extraneous details and components, including numerous plastic panels. the result was a bike that, at 148 kgs, is 39 kilograms lighter than the original.

visually, the custom ‘scrambler’ design consists of three core elements: engine, frame and body. the engine and other mechanical parts have been stripped to bare metal and vapor blasted to celebrate their raw mechanical nature. the frame was painted in ‘rosso corsa’, a neon orange color that ducati uses for their race bikes. the bodywork was painted in a solid grey to match the slim motocross influenced vinyl seat.

The Painting of César Biojo

creative mix of figurative and abstract nudes. m.

Colombian-born, Barcelona-based artist Cesar Biojo has made a name for himself with his series of portraits and nudes that mix realism, impressionism and abstract art to reveal the transience and elusiveness of human nature. Intentionally using a very limited color palette of eight to ten pastel hues, his paintings capture their subjects not in any particular moment in time but rather in a fluid state of temporal transition.

Frozen Ghost Vodka by Levenson & Hill

creative + provocative brand. great job! m.

“Frozen Ghost Vodka is a new entry in the crowded super-premium vodka marketplace. Arresting packaging is vital to success in this segment, both for the bottle and the box it arrives in. This design capitalizes on what the name suggests, both eeriness and the appetite appeal of a chilled vodka with an ethereally smooth flavor.”
