it’s a dark and beautiful world that german collective 3hund have created in their eerie and disquieting video, LUCID. filmed primarily in the staggering, otherworldly landscapes of iceland, the camera slowly floats above valleys and mountains, golden vistas and mossy outcrops before a dull neon light hints at something strange. it’s not immediately clear what the light is, or where it’s coming from, but the visual and emotional effect is instant.

the project was commissioned by swedish developer riksbyggen to commemorate the growth of kiruna’s urban landscape which involves the relocation of entire city districts in response to ground subsidence caused by decades of iron ore mining. bigert & bergström’s response saw an oval-shaped sauna being created as a symbol of rebirth and as an homage to kiruna’s iron ore fields. a delicately-framed staircase reveals the entrance, an opening that appears to have cracked open to invite guests inside. the multi-faceted character is continued inside but instead, finished in pine wood. at the center, heat is emitted by a heart-shaped wood-fired burner.

the purist of all forms — the circle — on the lovely danish coast. m.
during this year’s sculpture by the sea festival in aarhus, denmark, danish practice gjøde & povlsgaard arkitekter have added ‘the infinite bridge’ to the picturesque coastal landscape. the circular structure spans from the sandy shore out to sea, elevated just above the surface of the water — depending on the tide. the infinite bridge’ has been realized for the exact location, and refers to a historical, demolished jetty on the site.
