Swarm Light Installation, Vienna by Neon Golden
sharp light installation! m.

Austrian arts collective Neon Golden has created an immersive light installation that mimics the movements of fireflies.
Swarm features over 1,000 LEDs hung on wires from an overhead metal grid and arranged in a series of 40 modules throughout a dark space.
The lights use motion-sensing technology, controlled by Arduino and Raspberry Pi hardware, to replicate the motion of fireflies. The LEDs change position horizontally in response to the movements of nearby visitors.
The changing direction of the lights is based on coding used in the Boids software created by artificial-life simulation pioneer Craig Reynolds, which recreates the flocking and separation patterns of birds.
The piece made its debut at the Olympus Photography Playground in Vienna in February 2015 and attracted thousands of visitors. The space also hosted a performance from dancer Máté Czakó, which was choreographed and directed by Stefan Kainbacher.

The Ci-Lines Installation, Philadelphia by Brooklyn-based visual artist Aaron Asis
creative installation — blurring the lines between art and architecture. m.
Brooklyn-based visual artist Aaron Asis tied over 2,000 metres of blue cord across Philadelphia’s disused St Andrew’s Collegiate Chapel for this installation (+ slideshow).
The Ci-Lines — pronounced “see-lines” — installation was created by tying and wrapping blue paracord around carved wooden posts and architectural columns within the church.
Resulting lines across the space follow the paths of natural light entering through the windows of the 1924 Gothic Revival-style church, located on the corner of South 42nd Street and Spruce Street in West Philadelphia.
The installation intended to draw attention to the chapel’s architecture and engage the local community with the forgotten landmark, which has been closed and without heating, electricity or plumbing for more than 20 years.
“H {N)Y P N(Y} OSIS” Installation at Park Avenue Armory NYC by Philippe Parreno
intriguing — immersive — etherial light installation. m.
hilippe parreno orchestrates an experiential installation at park avenue armory.
for his largest work in the U.S. to date, philippe parreno turns new york’s park avenue armory into an experiential, evolving and site-specific process. the installation explores the potential of an art exhibition as a singular object, rather than a collection of individual works.
parreno radically seeks to redefine the traditional gallery-visitor-encounter by constructing a scripted scene that includes a series of constantly-changing events. within the monumental interior of the wade thompson drill hall, the dynamic grouping of happenings around the space fuse sound — both recorded and performed live by mikhail rudy — film, light, apparitions, and memory. these various elements guide the viewer’s experience through and perception of the vast site. the visitor is taken on a sensory journey through both parreno’s existing projects and new works that turn the building into a perpetually evolving organism.
