Versace Manhattan Showroom by SO-IL
brilliant light filled minimalist space by the new york studio. m.
New York studio SO-IL has completed a Manhattan showroom for Italian fashion house Versace, featuring movable white displays and columns sheathed in mirrors.
Encompassing 5,000 square feet (465 square metres), the showroom is an extension of Versace’s headquarters in New York, which overlooks Central Park.
The showroom was designed for the display of the brand’s multiple fashion lines and for its wholesale operations. It is also used as a venue for meetings and collaborative work sessions.
“The space was envisioned as a highly flexible environment that could be easily reconfigured to showcase the label’s many styles, tones and material languages,” said SO-IL.
Refurbishment of The Former Whitney Museum by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners
wonderfully honest refurbishment of a modernist jem — look forward to seeing the met breuer soon. m.

New York-based Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners sought to preserve the “authentic patina of aging materials” in its subtle refurbishment of the former Whitney Museum, which will reopen this month as The Met Breuer.
The Met Breuer is the new, temporary home for the contemporary and modern art collection of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met).
The landmark concrete and granite building was designed by the Hungarian architect Marcel Breuer and opened in 1966 in the city’s Upper East Side neighbourhood.
It formerly housed the Whitney Museum, which moved to its new Renzo Piano-designed home in the Meatpacking District last April.

Apartment in Amsterdam by MAMM Design
nice modern renovation to a beautiful historic building. kudos! m.
This is a renovation project of a duplex unit in an 85-year-old housing for a family of four. Since they have not been brought up in Amsterdam where they have a lot of gloomy weather, their request was to have maximum sunlight in the house. And also they want to have a space where they can feel each other.
Originally, there is a skylight at the top of staircase which connects upper and lower floors. Though the staircase itself was filled with sunlight coming from the skylight, the stairs and walls around them prevent the light from entering into the other part of the house. We took away the stairs, walls and a part of the upper floor’s slab, so that the sunlight can spread into all over the house. At the same time, the void connects the family.

House in Abiko, Japan by Fuse-Atelier
beautiful sculpted design. m.
The Japanese architecture studio Fuse-Atelier has finished his latest project, House in Abiko, a three-storey private dwelling in Abiko, Chiba prefecture, Japan. The project was conceived for a couple who collects furniture as a hobby, the design revolves around an open and brought living room that is flexible for multiple configurations.
Situated on a tight site flanked by neighbouring structures, the monolithic form is constructed from reinforced concrete and features a multitude of faceted corners. Two volumes protrude out of the street facade to create an overhang above the entrance and the car park. The larger cantilevered arm is fronted with a single plane of glass which permits sunlight to enter the interior.
