Artist: Park McArthur
Venue: SFMOMA, San Francisco
Exhibition Title: New Work
Date: April 1 — August 27, 2017
Park McArthur works with and through the social conditions of dependency, often in relation to care and access. This exhibition, the artist’s first solo museum presentation, examines the materials and processes frequently associated with monuments, memorials, and museums, and explores ongoing relationships with a building or place of congregation. New Work: Park McArthur features new and existing work that draws from the granite and wood of SFMOMA’s building, and includes photographs of informal gathering sites such as picnic tables in a public park. The marks and signs used at these sites question the connections — casual, recreational, ceremonial — that bind stone and wood to site, and people and locations to time.

The Corning Museum of Glass North Wing Expansion provides 100,000 square feet of new space, including spacious light-filled galleries for its collection of contemporary works in glass, as well as one of the world’s largest facilities for glassblowing demonstrations and live glass design sessions.
The new gallery building — which will be the largest space anywhere dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art in glass — features skylighting with a sophisticated light-filtering system that is integrated with the structural roof beams. Inside, the works of art will be displayed largely independent of the curvilinear plaster walls, encouraging circulation and allowing contemplation of larger works in glass. The gallery experience is punctuated by a 150 foot long window that provides views to the campus green and reorients the visitor to the larger landscape.
having followed his work for most of my life, this is yet another beauty — kudos! m.

By adjoining 200,000 fabric-lined floatable components, Christo hopes to allow the residents of two mainland towns in Italy‘s Lombardy region to walk on water for a duration of two weeks in June 2016. If approved, the ”Floating Piers” would connect both towns with the Lake Iseo islands via an extended, brightly colored fabric dock that would stretch across two miles.

within one of the most magnificent baroque edifices in vienna, olafur eliasson presents a significant selection of artworks from the private collections of thyssen-bornemisza art contemporary (TBA21) and juan and patricia vergez. the exhibition ‘baroque baroque’ — hosted inside the winter palace of prince eugene of savoy in the austrian capital — is sited beneath stunning gold-clad ceilings and within intricately ornamented rooms, offering a unique pairing of art, aesthetics, and world views from two vastly different time frames. surprising similarities between the danish-icelandic artist’s installations and their ornate surroundings become subtly evident; through the use of projections, shadows, and reflections, the artworks invite the viewer’s active participation by mirroring, fragmenting, and inverting their position within space.
‘I find it inspiring that the baroque exhibited such confidence in the fluidity of the boundaries between models of reality and, simply, reality,’ eliasson says. ‘the presentation of my works at the winter palace is based on trust in the possibility of constructing reality according to our shared dreams and desires and on faith in the idea that constructions and models are as real as anything.’

the primary features of monome devices are tactile and visual feedback. the decoupled design allows for clear response and intuitive play. when you push a key or turn an encoder the input data is sent to the computer for various forms of interpretation while the output data, light patterns for example, are controlled separately in response. all decision making is controlled by the chosen application running on the computer.
monome devices are interactive tools with a focus on minimalism. simplicity in design impose creative constraints that temper the endless reprogrammable possibilities. the ability to determine how input and output functions can present unlimited possibilities for interaction.

If mazes weren’t confusing enough already, American artist John Miller has built one from mirrors to further bewilder lost visitors, at Miami’s Institute of Contemporary Art.
The labyrinthine installation, aptly titled Lost, has been constructed in the Atrium Gallery at ICA Miami as part of a solo exhibition of Miller’s work.
Covering approximately 74 square metres, the site-specific maze is built from acrylic mirrors mounted on wood frames.
“With the mirrored labyrinth, Miller creates an environment that disorients by creating reflections of the self,” said Alex Gartenfeld, the museum’s deputy director and chief curator.

The 800-metre-long cable-stay bridge spans the Meuse river, connecting Rotterdam south with the city centre. It was completed by Van Berkel in 1996, before he and wife Caroline Bos changed the name of their office from Berkel and Bos to the better known UNStudio.
The 139-metre-high pylon is a prominent silhouette on the city skyline, thanks to its unusual shape. Rather than consisting of a simple vertical, its base runs parallel with the ground surface, then folds up at an angle before eventually bending up straight. Its silhouette has been compared to a swan.
