1800 Tequila Taps Keith Haring for Essential Artist Bottle Series

i’m not a fan of using artists for product branding but some of these are quite good — esp the haring and basquiat series. m.

Each year, world-renowned artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gary Baseman and Keith Haring have their work emblazoned on our tequila bottle. These limited-run bottles, filled with 1800® Silver Tequila, become instant collectors’ items.

Mirror-Clad Venue for Dior by Bureau Betak

lovely distorted minimalist pavilion for dior reflecting views of the louvre courtyard — hot! m.

for its FW16 presentation in paris, dior continues its collaboration with bureau betak for the show’s set and venue design. in past years, the parisian spatial designers have conceived scenography that included a living orchid wall, a gaudi-esque, smooth white sanctuary, and a sci-fi style grid for the luxury fashion house.

for this year’s paris fashion week, bureau betak has realized a colossal mirror-clad structure situated within the louvre’s ‘cour carrée’. the arrangement of reflective panels echo abstract images of the surrounding historic site, forming an immersive and experiential atmosphere as spectators arrive. visitors enter the venue through large tubes that tunnel inside a dramatic and dimly-lit chamber. once within, a sequence of rounded metal apertures provide a runway for models to walk through, flanked by stepped seating from which viewers watch the show.

99 Columns: An Interactive Scenographic Art Experience by Stéphane Malka

loving this minimalist light installation in paris. m.

or paris’ experiences art fair, stéphane malka architecture has infilled a vast exhibition space with ’99 columns’, an interactive scenographic art experience that visually and physically transforms the vacant site. attached to architectural beams installed throughout the industrial space are a sequence of vertically-oriented fluorescent tubes. these cylindrical light sources are connected to motion sensors that automatically generate fluctuating intensity within the hypostyle hall, completely bathing it in artificial light. the motion-activated system responds to visitors’ movements, blurring the line between the performance and the audience, and allowing the two to affect one other. the dynamic strings of light continually renew the viewer’s relationship to the venue, and architecture, as the space transforms, stretches and dematerializes.

Two TwentyTwo by Chris Briffa Architects

killer historic and modern design combo! m.

We imagined an urbane box which, like a mobile kiosk, could be plugged into the ancient fortifications and inaugurate their regeneration. Its sloping wall, imitating the angle of the bastions, maximises square metres on both ground and first floor; while preserving the original volume of the vault. The steel-timber structure contains light, power, sound, running water, cooling, air extraction, food and drinks; its well-hidden infrastructure ridding the bastion walls of all visible interventions.

Paper Cave Space by Kotaro Horiuchi

wonderful + etherial space in japan. m.

“the three-dimensional curved surface is made by soft white layers of paper hung side-by-side. holes on the façade let the comforting light shine through to illuminate the interior. located along a central axis, a backlit table made of artificial marble drawn by height variations form a freely undulating top that appears to float above the floor. the depth of the voids through its thickness allow the line of fixtures to transmit five different levels. the studio considers the furnishing to be a multi-functional device that can be used as an office, a saloon, a meeting place, a lounge or a bar.”
